4 Good Reasons To Have A Generator

Posted on

If you are questioning whether or not you should get a generator to help you in case of power outages, there are several good reasons why you should choose to have one, whether it's a big generator that can keep your whole house running or a smaller generator that can just run a few things.

Food

One reason to get a generator has to do with your food. If you have a generator that can run your refrigerator and/or freezer during a power outage, you aren't going to lose whatever food you have in your fridge or freezer. Another way that having a generator can help you with your food is that you can use your stove to make sure you have hot food, which can be a real boost in the wintertime when it's cold.

Temperature Control

Having a generator can also help with keeping the temperature controlled in your house during a power outage. You may not be able to run your entire furnace or air conditioner off your generator, but you can use some space heaters or fans, at least in one or two rooms. That will make you more comfortable while you are waiting for your power to come back on and run your full HVAC system for you.

Medical Devices

If you have to have some kind of medical device, such as oxygen, a nebulizer, or anything else, you want to make sure that you have a continuous power supply to that device. Having a power outage can slow you right down when it comes to running your medical devices. However, you can hook up a small generator that will make sure that you can turn on your medical device as necessary so that you aren't worried about your health during the power outage.

Morale

Being able to go some place that has light, temperature control, an ability to charge devices, or to have warm food can be a real morale booster. The longer you have no power, the more stressful it can be. Having a little oasis can really help keep you calmer and less stressed. You could even invite friends over so that they have someplace where they can de-stress and where you can all congregate during the power outage.
